Canterbury is a very special city to me. It’s where I began the journey to becoming the writer I am today, where the seeds of style first were planted and where I learned how to craft a story.
For a year, I even called the city my home, and chunks of my time there have turned into stories. Canterbury will forever live inside my writing.
It’s a beautiful place, and amongst its mix of Tudor and Medieval buildings and hidden history, it’s difficult not to get inspired. I wrote one of my first short stories on the banks of the river in Westgate Gardens, and walked many miles around the city centre.
It’s not just me that is inspired by Canterbury however. From 4th-6th of September (that’s next week), Canterbury will be taken over by A Few Wise Words Festival.
The Festival itself promises to be a hard hitting event, with performances from George the Poet and Simon Armitage, as well as live music, workshops, and talks around Canterbury. They’re rammed their line up with enough over the three days to keep everyone happy and enraptured by talent.
The Whisky & Beards team is lucky enough to have some dealing with some of the Wise Words team, here and there, and they’ve all been a truly passionate bunch. We’re eager to see their hard work pay off, there may have even been some hopping on the spot with glee.
In fact, some of our team will be performing at the slam, so we look forward to seeing you there.
Tickets for events are selling quickly, so make sure you grab yours as soon as you can.
